This was possibly one of the funest dj sets I've played this year - big up to the Tom, Jasper & Caro from the Bubblebus and to the wonderful Nettiefor taking the footage. :)

I'll be supplying you with 4 hours of Mach Music Selections at the lovely Big Chill Bar, Dray Walk, Brick Lane, Shoreditch; so if you're in the area, it'll be good to see you (i'll be the pissed one behind the decks....).
Firstly: due to "planned maintenance" I won't be able to do my show next week (and maybe for the next two weeks after that, but we'll take them as they come). It's all good - we're replacing the floor in our studio/office - but it does mean that the everything will need to be taken down and packed away while this happens. Secondly, some free music: this weeks show features music by Halogen and Iambic and you can get these EP/LPs for free just by visiting this link to the Maternity Ward Website. And if you want some more (and you will) you can download some more Halogen tracks from here. Dig in. :) Massive thanks to the wonderfully sparkling Mixmaster Morris for those tips and links. Thirdly, I've been booked to VJ at the Big Chill Festival this year! Yay! :) Anyway here's this weeks...

Ok, ok, - fair does. The astute amongst you will realised that this blog posting is being made while I should havin' it large to Jeff Mills at The Roundhouse but, hmmm, after a pizza and sitting on a sofa (and well, it was raining) I decided to lunch it. In my defence I did go and see School of Seven Bells yesterday (see pic) and tomorrow night (after a busy stag do for my good friend Dr Em.) I'll down at Concrete on the South Bank, next to the Hayward Gallery for our monthly "Echaskech Presents..." do, featuring Live performances from Yimino and Infinite Scale. And apologies to those using the Soundcloud streaming features, I've exceeeded my monthly upload file limit this month so can't upload this show - hopefully I'll be be allowed back on next week. Anyway, here's Friday's

Pictures are with thanks to Lanne Wise and Souum Cortes.

It's been a bit of a quiet week, this week: I've been mostly locked away in a room with 11 of my peers as I do my up standing citizen's duty as a Jury Member for the next couple of weeks. Dom and I did visit Blissfield's recording studio in deep and dark West London to record a podcast to talk about Echaskech's forthcoming appearance at their festival. I'm not too sure when it'll be aired but if I find out, I'll let you know. Here's this week's...

As it was glorious May 1st - a day where socialists and pagans both bond over the beauties of spring - it seemed right to start this show with some revolutionary music and The 180Gs version of Negativeland's 'Christianity is Stupid" seemed a great place to start. Like my own revolutionary tendencies, the theme does peter out rather quickly but I do wish you all a happy International Workers Day. :) A quick note about Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova who I was introduced to the night before though the magical film "Once". The missus and I were quite stumped by the arrival of this in our Love Film selection as neither of us remember putting it on our list and the description of it being "a Modern Musical" didn't really fill us with confindence, but oh my; what a wonderous movie.
The story revolves around an Irish Busker (played by Glen Hansard) and a Cech immigrant (Marketa Irglova) who bond over their mutual love of music and their relationship that springs around it. It's not really a musical but it is a film about music and how synergy plays a huge role in how musicians get together - the first moment when Glen and Marketa play together gave me goosebumps - and its the amazing music and the magic that happens between Glen and Marketa when they perform which is the real star of the show, here. Straight after the movie finished I was on the internet looking for the OST and thanks to emusic we now have The Swell Season, the recording that came out of the back of that LP.
Anyway - go get the movie. It's lovely. :)

We're back behind the best decks in London. On Thursday, Dom, Andy and I will be playing the best tunes we know at The Big Chill Bar, Dray Walk, Brick Lane to try an convince you that working on a Friday is a bad idea. ;)
It's been a great week for Back To Mine. I finished off building the new deck area so we have a new oustide space to play tunes, dance and chill together, and we were also joined by two new resident selectors: Second Life electronica genius and resident alien, from Albany, NY: Transient Zeluco and new to Second Life, from Ontario, Canada: Alexian Jupiter. Both will be enriching the Mine with their music collections and not only that, long time BTM resident and long time Second Life DJing partner of mine, Sagesse Sautereau came back to play some excellent tunes after me on Friday.
WARNING! Before you start to listen to this, please be aware that the first part of this mix features two very long and rather self indulgent King Crimson tracks that might only appeal to some of you! If that might be the case, may I suggest that you fast forward to 19:00 and start listening from there. The rest and noble few of you who like a bit of prog in your lives: more power to you: "Whallay". If you decide to dive headlong in and don't like what you hear, well you've only got yourselves to blame; I did try to warn you... ;)

A slightly shorter show this week, due to some technical difficulties with our router and setting up the stream, and sadly there's a bit of distortion on the recording, which I didn't notice until right of the end of the set - you might want to take some bass off when listening to it. I hope it doesn't distract too much from the recording. The opening track - the new Tunng single from need no water records - has taken me a while to get into but, after seeing them live with Tinariwen last week I'm in love with it. I'll try to remember to play the Soy un Caballo version next week for you. Mucho thanks to Mixmaster Morris for the Animal Hospital track "Memory", off the LP "You Are There" which, along with the Fever Ray eponymous release and the reissue of the School of Seven Bells Album, "Alpinisms" have been making my musical world a far better place, this month.

To make up for the appauling show that I won't be around for the next two Fridays at Back To Mine, I thought I'd share with you all a set I played at Home, in Second Life. Home is a joint venture between the lovely Altern8 Mcmillian, the charming Humble Pinion (a.k.a The Rezzidents), the glamourous Justine Perenti and the mysterious Mikkel Jackson and, last weekend it celebrated it's first birthday and they invited me to play in their chillout room, and here's what I played (photo by Humble Pinion):

Ok... to make up for the dreadfully poor show by me on Friday and not managing to do my show from Back To Mine (trust me - it was better I didn't: after a very very good night with Dom and Dave G, firstly at The Big Chill's 15th birthday and then on to Fabric for the annual Breakspoll awards) here's a release from the mix archive. It was originally released in December 2005 and was a collaboration between myself and the marvellously talented and scrumptious Herby Vor and was lovingly constructed in Cakewalk. Normal service will be resumed next Friday. Photo taken by Miko Coffey at Big Chill Naxos, 2002: The most fun a human can actually have.

This one's for me. :) I finally reached 42 years old this week and, as you can see in the picture above, found the meaning of life, only for it to escape my grasp and fly away. All I remember is it's got something to do with Hot Dogs, Sunflowers and RS232 ports... .aaaaanyway, here's what I played:

It was an emotional day. Maldor Mayne, one of the original shining lights behind Back To Mine (and someone who guided me through the early stages of my Second Life existence) , has decided to take a break from Second Life and today was his last day. So, as I state at the beginning of this show, this one's for you, Mal. We're all going to miss you.

This Thursday sees the start of our regular DJing residency at The Big Chill Bar, which we're calling "Three Day Weekend with Echaskech" as it's certainly looking like we'll be taking off the Fridays to recover from it. :)
