IMG_7745.JPG

A quick note to say that myself and Stuart P from Dear Boss will be taking over the Pickle Factory’s Cocktail at tonight’s (16/9/19) I Love Acid. In the main room once again the line up is super stellar with Altern 8 and Ceephax Acid Crew playing live supported by the excellent DJ talents of Posthuman and Brooklyn’s Lauren Flex (Bunker).

New Mix: A Broad Range - Together 2018

“Here it is the groove slightly transformed Just a bit of a break from the norm
Just a little somethin' to break the monotony
Of all that hardcore dance that has gotten to be
A little bit out of control it's cool to dance
But what about the groove that soothes that moves romance
Give me a soft subtle mix...”

Here’s the “studio” cut of a mix I performed at Awamu’s third “Together” festival. It’s pretty much what I played but I added a longer introduction to it (which might help it last longer on SoundCloud) - the opening lines are from Grant Green’s amazing “Slick! Live at Oil Can Harry’s” lp - and there is a “bonus” track at the end that I really wanted to play but I knew time wouldn’t allow it, bcut for you, dear listener, you get to experience the genius of Raj Pannu’s “FSOJ”. The third track is a mashup of Skee Mask’s “Session Amp” and MJ Cole’s UK garage classic “Sincere” with extra beats and production courtesy of the ever patient Andy G from Echaskech.

Hope you like it! Here’s the...

New Mix: A Return To The Second Life

Well that went exceedingly well. Restart was very well attended and it was so good to see so many old faces and reminded me the genuine power and depth of Second Life friendships and how incredibly fun clubbing was (probably still is) in Second Life. There simply isn't anything else quite like it... Ok so this mix I wanted to do something with some of the longer tracks in my collection (as I knew that I might be busy chatting and saying hello to so many old friends). The recording... hmmm, there's a slight distortion on some of the bass frequencies which, without recording the whole thing again, I couldn't get rid of in 'post' which is a shame because as a 2 hour listening experience I'm really happy with the flow. I suggest you don't listen to it as closely as I do and you should be fine. ;) I should apologise for including a couple of tracks from the last mix but they are too good to just play once out. Hope you enjoy it.

As for actually returning to Second Life... I can't see me doing it. Don't get me wrong it's an amazing experience and you can spend a LOT of time in there, but technology has moved on (the graphics were never it's strong suit) and socially networked VR experiences will trounce all over this once that takes hold. And honestly I don't have the time to dedicate to it as I did. But the people are amazing and those friendships I hope they last until we leave this place...

Saturday June 27th 2pm-6pm: DJing at Merchants Tavern

spiritland_web2.jpg

I'll be DJing at the quite amazing Merchants Tavern on Saturday afternoon of the last weekend in June; so for those of you not going to Glastonbury if you need a wonderful bar, with great food, drinks served up by warm welcoming staff then please pop in, I'll be the one playing the warm and eclectic electronica through the amazing spiritland sound system

Beat Unique Presents: Infinite Scale & Kinza Live AV Sets + DJs

beat_unique_201411.jpg

Look I know I've been quiet. I'm sorry about that. But since me losing my residency at Concrete, in my defence, I've been busy. Stupidly so. Some of you might know of the Disco Shed (who won "Shed of the Year 2014" in the "Normal Shed" category in Channel 4's Amazing Spaces competition) well, they have a wedding dj business called "Disco Wed" and I've joined their ranks as one of their DJs, and they have been keeping me exceptionally busy; so, if you're thinking of getting married (or even if you're not) and you need a great, friendly, adaptable and hiqh quality dj to hire, you know where to go. September also saw me at Bestival with Disco Shed on what turned out to the best Bestival yet; a great crowd, great weather, wonderful crew, a fantastic location for the Disco Shed and not to mention the undeniably awesome company of Rachel Mavis Stringbot III. It just couldn't get any better than that.

But all of that is in the past. So what of the future?

On Nov 26th 2014 at the Sebright Arms Beat Unique are presenting a night of kick ass Electronica of the very highest quality, featuring Infinite Scale (live), DJ Sets from Digitonal and Phil Winter (Tunng/Wrangler and introducing Kinza (live). I'll be on the visuals for Infinite Scale on  the night and I'm slap bang in the middle of trying to make up a completely new visual show so, if you're free that night, please come down; it'll be topper.

If you're on the torrid and addictive monstrosity that we all call Facebook the event is set up here

Hope to see you there!

Sunday 14th July 2013: Return to the Big Chill Bar

As luck would have it I've asked to play at one of my favourite venues in London this Sunday, The Big Chill Bar. I've been an irregular feature down there, somewhat like an occasional table, ever since it opened back in 2005. I played the first week it was opened, I've been lucky to play at their very special New years eve and New Years day parties, as part of their celebrations for the Big Chill festival and have been involved in a number of residencies there over the years. This time they've asked me to bring in the chill and downtempo, in a very welcome move to return the bar back to it's humble laid back musical roots. Something I'm more than happy to do. See you down there!

Dr Mo's fantabulous Audio Visual art show, Electrovision returns to The Roxy Bar and Screen on March 23rd and I've been asked to accompany the marvellous Infiinite Scale once again, supplying the visuals. I'm busy editing as much new content as I can for this show and Harmi will be showcasing tracks from his forthcoming new LP, "Living Moments" and if that's not enough to whet your appetite, there's the most amazing Max Hattler, award winning VJ Emiko and the cofounder of Forward Motion Theatre - New York based VJ Eric Dunlap. It's going to be an amazing night. Entry is £5 on the door, and get in early if you want to get a good seat/sofa.

I'll be Vjing for Echaskech as part of the quite wonderous night that Digital City have line up to help us all celebrate their 7th birthday. The Venue (as always ) is secret but I'm told that it's somewhere in the Aldgate/Brick Lane/Whitechapel area. Tickets are in limited supply (especially at these prices) so don't daudle or dally. Mach V @ Back To Mine, 20101208 & DJing at Big Chill Bar, Brick Lane 17/12/10

backtomine-20101208.jpg

Ok, this is probably the last "proper" Back to Mine of the year as next week, two things will happen - firstly my Back to Mine show will be on Tuesday 14th December, instead of Wednesday as I'll be making a fool of myself at the office christmas party and, instead of my usual relatively random musical ramblings, I'll be dedicating the whole of next weeks show to rounding up the top 10 best LPs of 2010 (in my most humble and learned opinion, of course) and, if we have some time left over, some other musical highlights from the last 12 months, too. I realise that there are a couple more Wednesdays left in December but this time of year it's tricky to make plans so it might be the last time I get a chance to play from home before 2011 jumps up  and wiggles it's fancy new date in our faces. As for what's on the top 10, I still have no idea; there's a definite 5 or 6 so far, but I'm leaving the final list to the very last moment... one thing is for sure, it's going to be a great list as 2010 has been an awesome year for new music. Oh, also if any of you are around I'm djing at The Big Chill Bar on Friday 17th December alongside Paul Noble and Roy Shay from 8pm till 1am so if you're around, do pop in. Anyway, enough of my jibber jabber, let's have the links to the freebies and the...

Work Up @ Big Chill Bar

bcb_map_blue0.jpg

Ok! Ok! I know. I've been ridiculously bad at posting up events on the blog prior to me actually doing them and there's no excuse for that. Well, apart from laziness which as excuses go, is a very good one indeed. Anyway, this month I've been invited to DJ down at the Big Chill Bar with the marvelous Sparky and Edd as part of their regular Work Up night. Come along. Buy drinks. Start dancing. Forget it's a school night. Well, that's my plan...  :D

Work Up @ The Big Chill Bar

Echaskech Live @ Digital City & Names of Nothing, Sat 27th March 7pm-7am

Ok so this one's already sold out but for those lucky few who are coming you're in for a very special night in a fantastic location - visually this one is going to make you freak. For those who didn't manage to get a ticket, well you'll have to wait 5 days (see the next post)

Mach V @ The Tate Britain Jan 8th 2010 as part of "Quiet Voices"

20721w_quietvoices.jpg

Quiet Voices at The Tate BritainSadly there's no show this week as dufus, here managed to record the whole thing at a completely distorted level , rendering it unlistenable, however I do have other news. I've been asked to contribute a short film to accompany "First Light" by Sounds From The Ground for a show - called Quiet Voices - at the Tate Britain that's being curated by John Rixon (a.k.a Amukidi), on Friday 8th January, 2010 between 6pm and 10pm.

I'm completely stoked, excited, humbled, daunted and numerous other confusing emotions by this news as it's completely beyond what I'd ever hope to acheive as a "VJ", but I do hope that some of you can make it down to London to see the show, not only for me but for the plethora of talent that my film will be a small part of.

Normal service will resume next week. :)
