A rather sad week for music, with the deaths of John Martyn and Charles Cooper (Telefon Tel Aviv) being announced, so it seemed only right to feature just some of their excellent contributions to music on this weeks show.

I finally managed to get down to it and sum up some of the great music that has made 2008 great for me and it's mostly LPs, which I suppose is a change in itself, as for the last 14 years of DJing my music purchases have been mostly made up of singles, but moving on to buying CDs and having an emusic subscription has changed that. Anyway - on with the list (it's not in order, but the best is saved to the last):

Here's Friday's Show for you lovely people. I'm suffering with a cold at the moment, so not much talking on this one (thankfully) apart to whinge on about I "ribbish" I felt. Gah, I dunno... prima donna or what? ;)
Mitch Mitchell, the drummer with The Jimi Hendrix Experience died on the Wednesday this week so, to commemorate that (and the fact that Heaven has a fantastic three piece up there now) we had a Jimi Hendrix session at Back To Mine on Friday.

One of the great things about Second Life is the people you meet and without a doubt my life is enriched because I know Zbornak. I was asked to play at her birthday party as a surprise guest and this mix is the result - there's a little bit of me chatting at the start, but don't worry I soon shut up and get on with the mixing. ;) It wasn't a planned mix, the tracks came to me as I went along (mostly), and I was exceptionally happy with the set - thank god I recorded it! It's starts out with a few favourites, moves into the party funk then gets all heavy, wanders into the electroclash room for a bit and ends with a couple of classics - definitely one of the most enjoyable sets I've played from home. :)
In the summer of 2007 I was approached by Bev and Pete (a.k.a MrsPirate and PiratePete) to provide a mix to accompany the birth of their first child, Isla. Initially I was thrown into a panic; having never attended a birth before (apart from my own, of course) I had no idea what they would want to hear during that incredibly emotional time; I knew it had to be long as first births have a reputation for being drawn out affairs and I knew I didn't want to stick to a tempo as, after a while that would just get annoying. They'd given me a free reign on music selection, trusting me implicitly so it was all up to me. So, I decided to put something together that would try and calm, relax, entertain, but also not try dominate the proceedings. I didn't want to have too much vocal stuff in there as I presumed there would be enough chatter/instruction/shouting/swearing going on without my mix adding to it. As fate would have it, due to the frenetic nature of a birth and some technical problems it wasn't used but has gone to keep Isla (and Bev and Pete) music entertained.
Personally I use it, after a very good and heavy night, to drift off to sleep to ;)
